Our version of ‘Ripley’s Believe it Or not!’

Monday, May 4th, 2009

Recently it is noted that an eight year old girl is getting divorced with a 50 year old man. Her father forced her to marry him in exchange for $13,000. In Saudi Arabia, child marriages are permitted and aren’t considered bad, but because of the US partnership with Saudi Arabia, they declared that child marriage was unacceptable and is against human rights, especially if its done in exchange for money. This is what her lawyer, Abdulla al-Jateli claimed. Can you believe it? One of the wackiest things I’ve ever read!!!!

Friday, May 1st, 2009

As everyone is clearly aware, the Swine Flu Epidemic in Middle East- a disease that is a mixture of pig flu and human flu, humans aren’t immune to it since it is received from pigs- epidemic hasn’t reached critical levels around the world. YET. Swine Flu first appeared in Mexico and is spreading quite quickly throughout Mexico and is already infecting American citizens near the border. Swine Flu has also reached the Middle East. The Israeli Health Minister recently confirmed that there has been one death fro this disease. This proves that Swine Flu is spreading rapidly. It started in Mexico and is moving eastwards towards Asia. People in the Middle East, be aware of your environment, take care of yourselves and be careful. Keep yourself clean and be Aware!!!!

Jerusalem

Dubai Bubble

The Burj, Dubai

Dubai Hotel

The Mall, Dubai

As you can see, Dubai is a very developed country in terms of technology and architecture. People percieve the Middle East as being a war zone and a very sad area. But, they are filled with blooming culture and religious sights and Dubai is one of the most developed cities in the Middle East. It is considered the Singapore of the Middle East. Dubai is the modern and beautiful and Jerusalam is religious and peaceful. The  Middle East has it all!!!

What we know, assume and want to know about the Middle East (KAW)

Thursday, April 23rd, 2009

What we Know:

  • The main cultures in the middle east are Judaism and Islam.
  • There is war between Iraq and USA because George W. Bush thought that Sadham Hussain had nuclear weapons but the CIA claimed that this false.
  • Some people from the Middle East play the role of terrorists in the United States of America. (most people are very nice and are filled with kindness)
  • There is a lot of oil in the Middle East.

What I assume:

  • Maybe its called the Middle East becasue it’s to the East of Europe.
  • A religion in the Middle East is Muslim.
  • People are probably having a hard time with wars.

What I want to Learn:

  • What do the people think about in the Middle east on the topic of terrorism and wars that take place in thier countries ever so often?
  • What type of sports do they play?
  • Are there civil wars that could cause maybe the next World War?
  • Why is that area of the world called the Middle East?

:) ;P

HEY EVERYONE

Thursday, April 23rd, 2009

Hey Everyone,

Many things have been said about the Middle East; its many wars, terrorists attacking the United States, and it’s realgious locations (for example, in the Christian religion Jesus was born in Jerusalem).  However, our goal for this blog is to find out information that we learn during this humanities unit and post it on this site.  Furthermore, we will try to post things such as pictures (and maybe videos) so that people can gain a visual perception of the Middle East, and we will try to keep the blog as updated as possible.  Hope ya’ll have a good day!

:)
